Anna and the children

Laine was born on August 17th, and this picture was taken on August 20th.  Laine was fresh and new.  A bright light to our house, which was getting weary.  Amazingly, Mia had an infection of her central line a day before Anna went into labor, on August 16th, and was admitted to Lucile Packard Children’s hospital.  Anna then went into labor, and drove herself to the hospital while I was with Mia’s doctors dealing with the line infection.  I scooted downstairs to see Anna, who was doing OK.  Then back up.  Then back down.  I was with Laine and Anna for the delivery, the again went back up.  We all came home more or less at the same time on August 19th.  We were to complete Mia’s antibiotic course at home, and we were all going to try and get some sleep.  Laine was a charmer, even at birth.  Mia was introduced to her, and took to Laine immediately.  And Laine took to Mia.

This scene captures a bit of the chaos.  We chose to all be in the same room to minimize any chance of anything going wrong.  Mathew was a trooper, entertaining himself for the most part, and even helping out as much as he could.
